pledge of allegiance

• Cable/satellite TV is going to be so dangerous for me. Now that we have a TV that gets good broadcast reception, I keep finding fascinating programs on NPT at ridiculous hours of the night. (More about the TV later.)

Mike Byrd alerts us to death of the man responsible for getting “under God” added to the Pledge of Allegiance in the 50s and reminds us of the origins of the Pledge.

The original Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag was written in 1892 by a Baptist who also happened to be a Christian Socialist. The original did not include the words "under God" after "One nation." I prefer the original wording and intention of the Pledge when I recite it.

Very early this morning I received a break-up note from our church’s youth pastor.

I'm always amused at GOP attempts at patriotism, which are usually cheap, overdramatized, and require no sacrifices of the flag-wavers.
