I think most of you know that I was adopted and am soooo thankful that God had his hand in my adoption.  Most of you know that because of this, I am a strong advocate of adoption.  Most of you also know that as a family law attorney, I’ve helped clients with adoptions and am currently working on a particularly difficult case regarding an adoption.

Katie Allison Granju is not so shocked but very much appalled that the new Republican majority in the legislature will be advancing social issues:

In a period of housing foreclosures, Florida's law barring people who lose their homes (and thus their verifying addresses) effectively turns voters' ability to pay into a litmus for eligibility.  In Florida, voters have to have money to exercise their constitutional right.

I wish I could say that we are doing better, but, women are still fighting for the same rights they have always been fighting for, things like access to adequate health care, equal pay.

It's bad enough that most people experiencing homelessness must also endure a wide variety of hardships and hassles related to obtaining the most basic of needs during the course of a typical week

Rove flees the country, blows off subpoena.
The Judiciary Committee seems serious about asserting their Constitutional right of authority to force Rove to testify in the investigation on dismissed U.S. attorneys, and Gov. Don Siegelman. They have given Rove one final extension and warning - 5 days to comply:

The Supreme Court ruled on Thursday in a 5-4 decision that Americans have a constitutional right to keep guns in their homes for self-defense. This is the first major ruling on the 2nd Amendment in our Nations history. In the case before the court, the Court overturned a 32-year-old Washington DC. ban on keeping handguns in the home.
