Welcome to Nashville Is Talking

Nashville Is Talking (NIT) began on April 24, 2005 as a MovableType blog aggregating Nashville area blogs.

This year (2008), NIT moved to the open-source Drupal platform and became a comprehensive, community-driven view of Nashville's conversation through blogs, photos, video, tweets and more.

NIT aggregates more than 250 Nashville area blogs, tweets from close to 400 people, and pictures and video from countless more. If it's being discussed or experienced in Music City, you'll find it here. The video on this page will walk you through many of the new features on this site.

The site is produced and hosted by WKRN-TV. NIT provides various tools (listed below) to facilitate the community conversation.

• Voting - You can vote on posts you think deserve another look. The top voted posts appear on the main page top and center under "Most Popular Posts." To vote, look for blog posts in any aggregated list. You can do that by clicking any of the categories at the top of the page or a tag that appears with an individual post. Once there, simply click the "VOTE" button. A list of the most posts appears at the top of every page and here.




• NIT Cloud - Holy Smokes! The NIT cloud is a tag cloud of all the day's posts by all the blogs NIT aggregates. It is a powerful tool that can tell you at a glance exactly what are the most popular topics being talked about in the Nashville area.




• Aggregator - We currently aggregate more than 200 area blogs. You can see the list of blogs on the main page. If your blog is not listed and you would like it to be added, click here.




• Blog of the Week - This feature lives on the main page. Each week we feature a blogger's site who is saying something you might find interesting.




• RSS - Imagine having a feed that displays all the latest posts by local blogs about your favorite subject. Imagine having your own aggregator on your blog listing all those entries? Now, go get it! NIT has hundreds of RSS feeds. Simply click any topic in the NIT Cloud or from the terms you see listed with each blog post under "Find more posts like this:". Look for the RSS icon and click it to get the feed.




• NIT iPhone apps - That's right. Get the latest live local radar and traffic cams with one push of a button from your iPhone's home screen. Just click the links below from you iPhone and add them to your home screen.

• Groups - NIT Groups are a gather of people who share an interest in a topic -- any topic! If you're a registered user you can join any group or create your own. To create a group, look for the "Create Content" from your user menu and choose "Groups." A list of all current groups can be found by clicking the "Groups" link at the top of any page. To post to a group, choose "Article" on the Create Content page. Click the video player icon to the right to watch a quick screencast tutorial on groups.




• Forums - Sometimes blogs and groups aren't the best way to carry on a freeflowing discussion. That's why we also offer a discussion forum. Here you create your own discussion thread or respond to what others are saying. Check out the forums from the "Forum" tab at the top of any page.




• My NashvilleIsTalking - Customize NIT to give you just the links you want! If you're a registered user, click "My NashvilleIsTalking" in your user menu. Here, you can add any feeds you want to watch. For example, lets say you want to see all posts about the Titans. Click the "Content" tab on the "My NashvilleIsTalking" page and click "Add Categories" and type "Titans" without the quote marks in the field and add it. Your My Nashville Is Talking page is now your own personal aggregator, giving you the latest posts about the Titans. You can also add forum topics, popular posts and other content to your My Nashville Is Talking page.




• Friends List - Keep up with other NIT users by adding them to your Friends List. This makes it easy to keep up with them online. To see your list, click "My Friends" from your user menu.
